Search for a "free retirement calculator" and almost everything that comes back wants something from you first — an email address, an account, a phone number so an advisor can "follow up." The tools that don't ask for that upfront are often collecting your income and savings numbers behind the scenes anyway, to sell to lenders, insurers, or advisory firms looking for leads.
None of that makes the tool better at answering the actual question: given what you have, what does retirement really look like, and when can you afford to stop working?
I've spent more than 30 years working in ecommerce. Then, in the middle of a rough job market, I found myself out of work again — at 60, with retirement not really on the table yet.
That pushed a question I'd been putting off: given what I've actually saved across investments and retirement accounts, how long would it last if I needed it now? I wanted a clear, honest, visual answer — not a spreadsheet with a dozen tabs and no sense of the shape of it.
Every retirement calculator I found wanted something first: an email, an account, a phone number "for a quick consultation." A couple of weeks of unsolicited calls later made the industry's actual business model pretty obvious. So I built something free that asks for nothing and never stores your information, because you shouldn't have to hand over your finances just to see where you stand.
